VILLE ST. LAURENT, Quebec (April 11, 2005) — Goodyear Canada Inc. will invest nearly $4 million this year to relocate a truck tire retreading plant in suburban Montreal to new quarters.
The new plant, to be located in the Beloeil industrial park near Ville St. Laurent, will be designed for 30,000 tires a year initially and then expand to 60,000 by the second year of operation, the company said.
The plant will be equipped with both conventional precure and the firm's proprietary Unicircle circular tread technologies. It also will be coupled with warehousing space for up to 69,000 tires, Goodyear said.
The plant, scheduled to be operational by August, will employ 30 initially, Goodyear said, and potentially up to 60 at full capacity.
Goodyear said it had been researching a site for this plant for more than two years. Goodyear Canada's other retreading plants are in Montréal, Québec City, Chicoutimi, Lavaltrie and Amos, Quebec, and Toronto. Combined they produce about 475 medium truck units a day. There's also an OTR tire retreading plant in North Bay, Ontario.
Goodyear modernized and expanded the Quebec City plant last year, adding Unicircle capacity to the existing precure capacity.
