Gem City Tire is looking to grow its business by expanding the service coverage out of its existing locations.
The Cincinnati-based dealership has been adding salespeople and running its retread plant 15 hours per day as it tries to increase its market share in all five of its locations: Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio; Indianapolis and Columbus, Ind.; and Somerset, Ky. The company, a Goodyear Truckwise dealership, operates five commercial/retail stores and one retread plant and 30 service trucks.
Gem City President Jeff Lecklider said he wants to pull more business out of each of his outlets by expanding customer service coverage by an additional 30 to 50 miles from each store and increasing retread production by 10 percent. Gem City's Goodyear plant retreads 210 medium truck and 20 light truck units per day. The output in-cludes Unicircle capacity.
``That's our major plan for this year and next-trying to get more efficient coverage out of existing locations,'' Mr. Lecklider said.
He added that he doesn't plan to expand his facilities. He said that right now, Gem City is trying to grow its non-national account business and train its new salespeople.
Gem City Tire offers Good-year, Dunlop, Kelly and Steelmark brands.
