Don Dominguez, longtime head of the former Private Brand Tire Group, has completed an agreement with a Chinese importer to introduce a private brand tire line to the U.S.
Mr. Dominguez, formerly a consultant to Mitas Inc., told Tire Business that Winland-brand medium truck tires will ship from China to the U.S. in May, followed by a light truck tire line with a different label during the fourth quarter. He said sport-utility vehicle, passenger, high-performance and industrial and off-the-road tires will be included in the line and be introduced following shipments of light truck tires.
Mitas, now called called CGS Tires U.S. Inc., acquired Continental A.G.'s agricultural tire business last year, and Mr. Dominguez said he left CGS in the wake of that deal and began searching for new private brand business. He is now working as an agent for an undisclosed importer, and he declined to disclose the manufacturer of the tire line at this time.
Mr. Dominguez said he plans to offer protected distribution areas to tire dealers who will sell Winland and the other labels. He can be reached at ddoming[email protected], or at (727) 860-4327.
