N.C. assn. meeting in Myrtle Beach
KURE BEACH, N.C.-The North Carolina Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association will hold its annual convention April 15-16 at the Holiday Inn Waterway in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The gathering will include seminars that reinforce the convention's theme of ``tuning up your tire business.'' The workshops include:
* Automotive Training Institute's Chris ``Chubby'' Frederick discussing the ``how to's'' of selling factory-scheduled maintenance, especially to female consumers;
* Kevin Snyder of American Tire Distributors (ATD) Inc., who will discuss how to get a greater share of the high-performance tire and wheel market;
* Financial advice on business worth from ATD's Jack Phillips; and
* Annette Dunlap, owner of Market Works, who will offer sales training and coaching on how to use the telephone more effectively for getting and keeping customers.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. Chairman and CEO Thomas Dattilo also will present a manufacturer's view of current trends in the tire industry.

Mid-America dealers talk success
TOPEKA, Kan.-The Mid-America Tire Dealers Association (MATDA) elected directors, presented scholarships and gave away other prizes during its February convention and trade show.
MATDA-which represents tire dealers from Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma-presented the Employee of the Year award to Janet Noah of Thompson's OK Tire in Beloit, Kan. She serves the dealership as office manager as well as in the part-time positions of salesperson, receptionist and scheduler, according to MATDA.
The group also gave away six $500 scholarships during its awards banquet.
The association awarded its Industry Service Award to Clarence Burggraf Sr., founder of Burggraf Tire in Quapaw, Okla., just two days before his death on Feb. 21.
The following new directors were elected to 2006-2008 terms, to begin July 1: Keith Christensen of Commercial Tire Centers in Salina, Kan.; Max Kuhlmann of Athol Co-op in Athol, Kan.; Nick Phillippi of Kansasland Tire in Park City, Kan.; Larry Rolston of Tech Supply Inc. in Lenexa, Kan.; Curtis Thompson of Great Western Tire in Oakley, Kan.; George Hoellen of T.O. Haas Tire in Lincoln, Neb.; Steve Kelle of Kelle Oil in Braman, Okla.; and Scott Reilly of K-S Tire in Alva, Okla.
