AKRON (March 11, 2005) — Four truck drivers are finalists for the Goodyear North America Highway Hero Award, which will be presented March 31 at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
The annual award, founded by the Akron-based tire maker in 1983, recognizes truck drivers who have performed life-saving rescues and roadside assistance while on the job.
The finalists are:
* Jose Ogas Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., who saved a little girl and her father by crawling into their upside-down car following an accident;
* Pat Foraker of Quaker City, Ohio, who, along with his wife Brenda, comforted victims of a two-car accident and helped them breathe then helped extinguish the cars when a volunteer fire crew arrived;
* Rick Dent of Diana, Texas, who pulled a man and his two children from a car filling with water after it swerved into a snake-filled ditch; and
* David Tucker of La Grande, Ore., who scared away a motorist attacking a California Highway Patrol officer during a traffic stop.
