WASHINGTON (Feb. 22, 2005) — The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act, which would levy sanctions against auto makers that don't provide independent repair shops with the same repair and diagnostic information they give to their dealers, once again tops the agenda for the Aftermarket Legislative Summit, scheduled for March 1-2 in Washington.
Also high on the list are legislation to allow small business associations to pool their members to create Association Health Plans (AHPs) to negotiate for low-cost health insurance; legislation to tighten criminal penalties against counterfeiters of auto parts and other goods; and reform of asbestos litigation, a top priority for manufacturers and servicers of brakes.
Summit attendees—including tire dealers, independent repair shop owners and aftermarket parts manufacturers—will meet with their senators and congressmen during the event to lobby for these and other bills.
