OLYMPIA, Wash. (Feb. 22, 2005) — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is fighting a Washington state bill that would adopt a section of the California emissions standard law that includes a 15-year, 150,000-mile “super warranty” on emissions control equipment.
“These expanded warranty programs hurt independent repairers, and it we don't educate policymakers as to the harm they can do to the small business community, we will see an increasing number of repairs eliminated from our customer base,” said Robert L. Redding, Washington, D.C. representative to the ASA, in a press release.
Merle Pfeifer, owner of Sparks Car Care in Federal Way, Wash., and an ASA member, testified against the bill at a recent hearing in Olympia before the Washington House of Representatives Transportation Committee.
