CYPRESS, Calif. (Feb. 9, 2005) — Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. is recalling a batch of 24 medium-duty radial truck tires produced by GTY Tire Co., a joint venture between Toyo, Yokohama Tire Corp. and Continental Tire North America Inc.
Yokohama earlier announced a recall of 69 commercial tires as part of the same issue.
Toyo said the tires were produced in Mount Vernon, Ill., from Dec. 12 to Dec. 18. A defect relating to motor vehicle safety is possible on the tires, which have a DOT production code of 5004. The company so far has not received reports of accidents, injuries or property damage.
The tires were built with a non-specified rubber compound in the shoulder area of the tire, leaving the overall durability of the tire reduced. The shoulder area could lift during extended operation, resulting in a degraded ride and handling. Failure to replace the tire could result in a tread separation and possible loss of vehicle control, Toyo said.
The affected tires include:
