INDIO, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2005) — For the second time in a little under a year, a California Superior Court judge has denied certification of a class-action lawsuit against Bridgestone/Firestone for alleged defects in Steeltex radial light truck tires.
Judge Christopher J. Sheldon of the Indio court gave no reason for denying the motion, though Joseph L. Lisoni, the Pasadena plaintiffs attorney who filed the class-action suit, said Judge Sheldon had promised to give a written explanation within the next week.
In a written statement, BFS said it was “pleased but not surprised” by the judge's decision. “As the court already pointed out…Mr. Lisoni did not present any adequate evidence to support class action certification,” the Nashville-based tire maker said.
Mr. Lisoni said he has several options at this point, including refiling the class action in Los Angeles federal court.
