SALEM, Va. (Jan. 20, 2005) — Yokohama Tire Corp. and the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) Local 1023 have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract for the company's Salem tire plant.
The pact—settled on Jan. 15—now is pending a ratification vote by Local 1023's 800-plus members. The local will hold informational meetings Jan. 26 and the ratification vote Jan. 29, a USWA spokesman said.
If approved, the new contract at the Salem plant—which manufactures passenger, high performance and light truck tires—will run through April 15, 2007.
The previous six-year pact expired in June 2003 and was extended as tire industry master contract negotiations took place.
