George E. Marshall, editor, publisher and owner of Tyres & Accessories magazine from 1971-1987, died Dec. 15 at age 81.
Mr. Marshall owned and operated several tire retreading, repair and distribution outlets in Britain before joining Tyres & Accessories in 1970. Within a year he purchased the publication, serving as editor until its sale in 1988.
He also is credited with founding Brityrex, the British International Tyre Exhibition, and was instrumental in forming associations in Britain for imported tire makers and tire wholesalers.
In retirement, Mr. Marshall wrote for several journals on a free-lance basis.
He is a member of the Tire Industry Association Hall of Fame, having been inducted into the International Tire Retreading and Repairing Hall of Fame by the former American Retreaders' Association in 1995.
Klaus Haddenbrock, current owner and publisher of Tyres & Accessories, credited Mr. Marshall with ``rescuing what was a moribund trade magazine'' and building it into a respected industry journal.
Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife Edna.
