Bridgestone adding plant in Brazil
SANTO ANDRE, Brazil-Bridgestone Corp. will spend more than $260 million in Brazil to build a passenger and light truck tire plant in Camacari and modernize an existing plant in Santo Andre/Sao Paulo.
The new $160 million plant is expected to come on stream in late 2006 with initial capacity of about 8,000 passenger and light truck tires per day to serve growing demand in Latin America, Bridgestone said.
The company also will invest more than $100 million to modernize the 64-year-old Santo Andre passenger, truck/bus, agricultural and off-road tire plant.
Goodyear expanding in Brazil
SAO PAULO, Brazil-Goodyear is spending $120 million over three years to expand medium radial truck tire capacity by 50 percent at its plants in Sao Paulo and Americana, Brazil.
The investment, which began in 2004, focuses on upgrading equipment and processes.
Kumho considers 2nd China plant
SEOUL, South Korea-Kumho Tire Co. Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with a potential partner in Tianjin, China, covering plans to build a tire plant-Kumho's second in China-near Tianjin.
According to a Kumho newsletter, Kumho and Tianjin Economical Development Area are considering a $185 million investment to build a plant in Tianjin rated at 5 million radial passenger car tires a year. The partners expect to formalize the agreement by March 2005, with the plant expected to come on stream in 2007.
