FONTANA, Calif. (Jan. 14, 2005) — Kumho Tire USA Inc. will supply tires to the Miracle Motorsports team in the American Le Mans Series, beginning this year.
Fontana-based Kumho announced this month that it would join the racing series as a tire supplier. Michelin North America Inc., Goodyear, Pirelli Tire North America Inc. and Yokohoma Tire Corp. also supply teams in the series.
The Miracle Motorsports team won the Le Mans Prototype 2 class at last year's 12 Hours of Sebring and is the defending class champion, Kumho said. Kumho signed a multi-year contract with the team, but terms were not disclosed.
“Coming into the ALMS with the defending class champions will help us get up to speed quickly, and it will also put some pressure on us because we went to help them defend their championship,” said Rick Brennan, brand manager for Kumho.
Kumho will begin tire development testing with the team this month. The series represents Kumho's first foray into professional road racing in the U.S.
