WATERVILLE, Nova Scotia (Jan. 14, 2005) — Michelin North America (Canada) Inc.'s Waterville plant is donating $20,000 (Canadian) to local charities to commemorate the manufacture of the 20 millionth tire at the 23-year-old truck and industrial tire plant.
Plant Manager Grant Ferguson praised the efforts of the plant's “skilled and dedicated work force” for reaching this milestone. The plant employs 1,100 hourly and salaried workers.
The company is donating $1,000 each to 20 local charities that were selected by vote of the work force, Michelin said, noting that firm's employees are active in volunteer work in Waterville and surrounding communities.
The Waterville plant is undergoing a $16 million upgrade to add capacity for large industrial and construction tires.
