CYPRESS, Calif. (Jan. 12, 2005) — Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp.'s 37-inch Open Country M/T tire for pickups and sport-utility vehicles will make its Unlimited Production Truck debut at the Laughlin (Nev.) Desert Challenge beginning tomorrow.
The Toyo - and FABTECH-sponsored SCORE Trophy Truck driven by Scott Steinberger will be shod with the Open Country M/T, which the tire maker introduced in mid-2004. Testing of a DOT-approved tire on an Unlimited Production Truck during race conditions occurs at the first event of the off-road racing season in Laughlin.
Travis Roffler, Toyo's senior director of marketing, called the introduction of the Open Country M/T at the event a significant commitment to the off-road truck segment for the Cypress-based tire maker as the company expands its market into the world of off-road desert racing. “Toyo is excited about entering the sport of off-road racing,” he said. “It provides an opportunity to both demonstrate and further test the capabilities of the Open Country M/T in the most extreme environment.”
Mr. Steinberger said he's “thrilled to be part of a new and exciting off-road program. I hope to do great things with Toyo Tires and take them to the next level in off-road racing. I recently tested the Toyo Open Country M/T tires at Laughlin and Parker, Ariz., and they really hook up in the sand and dirt. We are looking forward to a great season.”
