FINDLAY, Ohio (Dec. 30, 2004) — A Baton Rouge, La., man won Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s Ultimate Bowl Tour, sending him on a trip to five college football bowl games in seven days.
Robert Simmons, 62, entered the contest online and was randomly selected, the Findlay-based tire maker said. He and three friends began the tour Dec. 29 and will stop at bowl games in San Antonio, Memphis, Tenn., Pasadena, Calif., New Orleans and Miami. The four are traveling by private jet, and tickets, hotel accommodations and transportation also are included in the prize. Mr. Simmons will chronicle his trip in an online blog on ESPN's Web site.
“The response from consumers—whether they are tire buyers, college football fans, people who like to enter contests or all three—was overwhelming,” said Carl Casalbore, vice president of marketing and retail sales. “We're looking forward to Ultimate Bowl Tour 2005 and the enthusiasm it will again generate.”
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit served as the contest spokesman in national advertising.
In addition to the grand prize, the contest also awarded 25 first prizes of certificates of up to $500 for sets of Cooper tires and 50 second prizes for limited edition ESPN/Cooper Tire football jerseys.
“Our commitment to collegiate sports has helped us connect with more consumers than ever before,” Mr. Casalbore said. “The Ultimate Bowl Tour has allowed Cooper Tire to engage its dealers while targeting tire buyers that span our demographics—from younger consumers in the growing tuner market to brand-loyal customers who want our ultra-high-performance, SUV or light truck tire offerings.”
