AKRON (Dec. 20, 2004) — At least four tire makers are ending their manufacturer-supported road hazard warranties in Canada effective Jan. 1.
Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone, Michelin North America (Canada) Inc. and Pirelli Tire North America Inc. will stop offering the warranties as included in the purchase price of tires. However, the warranties still will be available as add-ons through dealers, similar to the practice in the U.S.
“Most of the retailers are offering (road hazard warranties), particularly the larger chains are offering them as add-ons,” said Tony Ensor, vice president, general manager at Pirelli in Canada.
A Michelin spokeswoman said road hazard warranties are in force for tires bought before Jan. 1, and workmanship warranties are unaffected.
