Helmut Werner, former chairman of Continental A.G. and Mercedes-Benz A.G., died Feb. 6. He was 67.
Mario Romero, an independent tread rubber and equipment sales representative who sold products for Long Mile Rubber Co., Oliver Rubber Co. and Pre-Q Rubber Co., died Jan. 3. He was 69.
Mark Bowie, owner of Bowie Tire Co. in Aberdeen, Ohio, died April 6. He was 46.
Todd Kaelber, president of Tiremaxx Inc. in Toledo, Ohio, died April 23 in a vehicle accident. He was 43.
Ray Carr Sr., founder of Ray Carr Tires Inc. in Harrisonburg, Va., died May 25. He was 90.
Abu Hani, owner of Texas Tires in Fort Worth, Texas, died June 3 when a trailer tire he was repairing exploded.
Henry M. Johnson, the ``tire king'' of Virginia in the 1970s and '80s and founder of two tire store chains, died June 17. He was 86.
Ted Wiens, founder of Ted Wiens Tire & Auto Centers in Las Vegas, died Aug. 31. He was 84.
Marvin Kline, former owner and president of Western States Manufacturing, a tire repair materials manufacturing company in Sioux City, Iowa, died July 14. He was 85.

Darwin Dapper Sr., founder of wholesaler Dapper Tire Co. in San Diego, died Sept. 6. He was 94.

Donald Brotzman, former president of the Rubber Manufacturers Association from 1977-89, died Sept. 15. He was 82.
Mr. Brotzman led the rubber industry's responses to some of the biggest challenges it faced, including the creation of Uniform Tire Quality Grading. He also was instrumental in recruiting international tire makers-Michelin, Bridgestone and Continental-into the RMA membership ranks.
