NOKIA, Finland (Dec. 14, 2004) — Nokian Tyres P.L.C. has agreed to sell its passenger tire retreading business to the Swedish retreading concern Mac Ripper A.B. for an undisclosed price.
The business, operated by Nokian's Vianor A.B. tire retailing business in Sweden, retreaded about 125,000 tires this year using the Galaxie trademark. Mac Ripper is based in Skepplanda, Sweden.
Nokian acquired the Swedish retreading assets in 1998 with its purchase of Galaxie A.B., at that time one of Sweden's largest tire distributors with 15 outlets and the retreading plant.
Nokian's Vianor business will continue to retread truck tires at plants in Finland, Norway and Russia along with selling new car and truck tires through its 170-plus outlets in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and Latvia.
