REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio (Nov. 1, 2004) — American Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd. has selected Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. as the exclusive marketer of Kenda radial passenger and light truck tires in the U.S. and Canada.
Kenda said an agreement between the two companies gives Cooper exclusive rights to market, sell and distribute Kenda's radial passenger and light truck lines.
Reynoldsburg-based Kenda, a subsidiary of Taiwan's Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd., said the tires covered by the agreement are new products, jointly developed by Kenda and Cooper. Kenda will continue to market its existing range of specialty tires.
Initially the Kenetica H- and T-rated passenger tires will be available only in the U.S. Additional lines will be added and extended into Canada, Kenda said.
Kenda and Cooper are partners in a joint venture that's building a passenger tire plant in China.
Financial terms of the marketing agreement were not disclosed.
"This is a logical extension of our ongoing relationship with Kenda Tire," said Phillip Caris, Cooper´s vice president, sales and marketing. "This strategy provides Cooper with additional flexibility in the range of products we offer to meet the needs of today´s tire consumers. We are certain this will benefit both existing Cooper and Kenda dealers and distributors."
