ETD opens 10th retail tire outlet
LYNDHURST, N.J.-Englewood Tire Distributors will mark the grand opening Nov. 5-6 of its newest ETD Discount Tire Center, in Wayne, N.J., its 10th retail tire and auto service center in New Jersey.
The 6,000-sq.-ft. Wayne store has seven bays and stocks 1,500 tires. It opened in July, and the grand opening was postponed from September. Dan Hoffmann is the general manager.
Englewood Tire also announced three promotions within its organization. Mike Finley, previously retail director, was named director of marketing and dealer support. Rudy Watson, formerly sales manager for Mighty Auto Parts, was named general manager of Englewood's Mighty business, and Joel Sparling, previously director of operations, was named retail director of ETD Discount Tire Centers.
On the wholesale end, Englewood Tire operates four warehouses in New Jersey and the Northeast. It is the American Car Care Centers Inc. distributor for New Jersey, Connecticut, the greater New York metro area and most of the Philadelphia metro area.
Canadian Treads adds MRTI plant
GREENVILLE, S.C.-Canadian Treads Corp. of Edmonton, Alberta, has signed on as a Michelin Retread Technologies (Canada) Inc. franchisee, becoming the fifth MRTI franchisee in Canada.
Canadian Treads is adding the MRTI pre-mold plant to its existing network of five Oliver Rubber-affiliated plants throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
``MRTI products and the unique MRTI process will bring significant cost-saving benefits to truck operators in western Canada,'' said David McAmmond, president of Canadian Treads, in a Michelin statement. ``This gives Canadian Treads and its dealer network the opportunity to provide increased value to the customer.''
Canadian Treads plans to have the plant operating by year-end, Michelin said.
With the addition of Canadian Treads, Michelin will have nearly 30 franchisees in North America operating 50 MRTI plants. The company said it has more than 230 points of sale in North America for its retreads.
Canadian Treads is among the 35 largest commercial tire retreaders in North America, processing 2.65 million pounds of tread rubber in 2003.
GCR plant gains ISO certification
AUSTIN, Texas-GCR Tire Centers' retreading facility in Clearwater, Fla., achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification as six other GCR facilities are in process to receive the same recognition.
The ISO certification recognizes facilities that have passed an intensive third-party examination for globally established management system requirements.
The Clearwater plant is one of 29 GCR retread facilities in North America operated by Bridgestone/Firestone's Commercial Tire Group. GCR also runs 192 store locations.
``We have worked hard to achieve this certification, and we are proud to offer our customers this added quality assurance,'' said Joe Little, director of North American manufacturing for GCR.
Dealer, Goodyear mark 55 years
PENNSAUKEN, N.J.-Goodyear recently recognized Albert Tire Co. in Pennsauken for the dealership's 55-year business relationship with the tire maker.
Goodyear officials presented a plaque to President Billy Albert and Vice President John Casey. Albert Tire is a wholesale distributor for Goodyear, Dunlop and Republic brands in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The distributor has two warehouses in Pennsylvania.
Goodyear's Larry Mason, president of North American consumer tires, and Eric Brown, general manager of G3Xpress Distribution, presented the award.
