HANOVER, Germany (Oct. 6, 2004) — Siemens VDO Automotive AG and Goodyear have teamed up to adapt their jointly produced Tire IQ system to commercial trucks.
In a statement, Siemens said the system could prevent 85 percent of all tire damage. Also, the system is increasingly popular for super single tires, Siemens claimed.
Tire IQ, initially developed for use in passenger vehicles, provides continuous tire pressure monitoring. In truck tires, the sensor is permanently linked to a 360-degree antenna in the tire that maintains radio contact with a receiver when the vehicle is moving or idling. The driver is alerted to pressure loss, and the device also stores tire wear and other information.
