GREENVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2004) — Michelin Americas Truck Tires recently added the 315/80R22.5 XZY 3 LRL size to its line of XZY 3 all-position radials.
The new size incorporates a long original tread life and a 23/32-inch tread depth that increases mileage and improves durability, Michelin said.
The XZY 3 provides an 11-percent increase in tread volume; a 5-percent increase in tread width; a 4-percent increase in tread depth and a 2-percent increase in net contact area, the Greenville-based tire maker said.
The co-extruded tread compound on the XZY 3 tire offers protection against aggression, chipping and scaling while keeping the crown area of the tread cool for improved retreadability, according to Michelin.
The ribs and shoulder edges are designed to retain their aggressive notches to allow maximized soft soil and mud traction throughout the life of the tire. Michelin said the bead design helps reduce damage to the tire bead during mounting and dismounting while significantly improving resistance to heat. Additionally, the tire's four-steel belt construction helps resist impacts and shocks common in mixed on/off-road service.
