TOKYO (Sept. 30, 2004) — Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. announced it would merge the operation of Yokohama Hydex Co., a wholly owned subsidiary, by Oct. 1.
Previously, Yokohama Rubber and Yokohama Hydex shared a hose business, with the former responsible for hose production and the latter producing metal couplings, assembling them into the hose and distributing the assembled hose. Yokohama Rubber said it decided to integrate the operations to improve efficiency.
For the integration, Yokohama will create a Hoses and Coupling Division. Yokohama Hydex was founded in 1973 as part of a joint venture. The unit became a 100-percent owned subsidiary of Yokohama Rubber in 1996.
