Darwin V. Dapper Sr., founder of wholesaler Dapper Tire Co. in San Diego, died Sept. 6 at his home.
``He was 94, and in those years he lived his life fully, with vigor, compassion, generosity, humor, modesty and above all with honor,'' family members wrote in his obituary. ``He was a true gentleman and a friend to all who knew him.''
Mr. Dapper founded Service Station Supply Co., which later became Dapper Tire, in 1946. The company operates eight warehouses in California and one in Oregon. Now a Goodyear subsidiary, Dapper Tire distributes Goodyear, Dunlop and Republic brands.
Mr. Dapper is survived by his wife of 67 years, Annette; children Darwin Jr., Diane and Terry; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
