Canadian Treads Corp. of Edmonton, Alberta, has signed on as a Michelin Retread Technologies (Canada) Inc. franchisee, becoming the fifth MRT franchisee in Canada.
Canadian Treads is adding the MRT pre-mold plant to its existing network of five Oliver Rubber-affiliated plants throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
“MRT products and the unique MRT process will bring significant cost saving benefits to truck operators in western Canada,” said David McAmmond, president of Canadian Treads, in a Michelin statement. “This gives Canadian Treads and its dealer network the opportunity to provide increased value to the customer.”
Canadian Treads plans to have the plant operating by year-end, Michelin said.
With the addition of Canadian Treads, Michelin will have nearly 30 franchisees in North America operating 50 MRT plants. The company said it has more than 230 points of sale in North America for its retreads.
Canadian Treads is among the 35 largest commercial tire retreaders in North America, processing 2.65 million pounds of tread rubber in 2003.
