BOWIE, Md. (Sept. 17, 2004)—The Tire Industry Association has selected John Lampe, retired chairman, CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc., and Mario Marangoni, chairman, CEO and president of Italy's Marangoni Group, for induction into the Tire Industry Hall of Fame for 2004.
A selection committee chose the two executives based on their achievements and leadership that have helped shape the tire industry, TIA said.
They will be inducted officially into the Hall of Fame during TIA's Breakfast with the President session, scheduled from 7 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, during the Performance Tires and Wheels Show/SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the event are $30 and can be ordered by using the special events registration form available online at www.tireindustry.org.
Mr. Lampe, who retired on March 31, spent more than 30 years in the tire industry starting at the former Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. as an international trainee. He climbed the corporate ladder, taking on various management positions before becoming the top executive at Bridgestone/Firestone in October 2000 in the midst of the Firestone Wilderness/ATX recalls.
From that point until his retirement in March 2004, Mr. Lampe directed the firm's efforts to deal with the recall and the legal and public fallout from it. He helped stabilize company, restore employee morale, reassure the dealer network and rescue the Firestone brand.
Mr. Marangoni began his company in 1950 as a retreading concern. He is considered a pioneer in the European retreading and waste tires-to-energy industries.
Under his leadership, Marangoni grew to become known worldwide for its retreading systems and proprietary retreading equipment – including the Ringtread and Kontur retreading systems – as well growing into a major European retreader.
Today Marangoni makes and distributes retreading machinery worldwide and produces new and retreaded tires in Europe.
