Goodyear has developed a wet weather technology, Hydro-Paddles, for its Dunlop brand.
The technology, which is featured on Dunlop's SP Sport 01 ultra-high performance tires, is designed to shoot water laterally from under the tire as the curvature of the Hydro-Paddles propel water from beneath the tire through outer drainage grooves.
Dunlop engineers rely on new wave-shaped surface details in the grooves of the asymmetric tread for improved wet traction, Goodyear said.
By designing Hydro-Paddles on the inner side of the SP Sport 01, engineers said they optimized the efficiency of water removal without compromising the tire's other performance features. Goodyear said the technology will be used in ``future tires'' in North America.
