Calling it one of the most popular consumer promotions in the 78-year history of the Monroe brand of shocks and struts, Tenneco Automotive Inc. said it is bringing back its ``Shocktober'' fall promotion.
The promotion's goal, Tenneco said, is to ``help automotive service shops and their suppliers maximize ride control sales during the crucial autumn car care season.''
The ``Return of Shocktober'' promotion will provide consumers with a free premium Monroe-brand shock or strut with their purchase of three qualifying units between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31 of this year. Tenneco's Monroe subsidiary is supporting the promotion with an expanded array of Halloween-themed point-of-purchase materials, including posters, counter stand-up easels, trade ads and banners as well as through radio and television advertising.
The company said more than 17,000 service locations and 42,000 consumers took part in last year's promotion.
Earlier this year Tenneco unveiled an advertising campaign to alert consumers about the critical role of their vehicles' shocks and struts and began recommending replacement of shocks and struts at 50,000 miles.
``Shocktober'' participants will get a rebate check covering the cost of one premium Monroe shock or strut with their purchase of three qualifying units, which include Monroe Sensa-Trac, Monroe Reflex and Monroe Gas-Magnum products. Installation charges are excluded. Rebate applications and required proof-of-purchase materials must be postmarked by Nov. 15, Lake Forest, Ill.-based Tenneco said.
More information on the promotion is available through a Monroe supplier or at the company's Web site, www.monroe.com.
