SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Aug. 26, 2004)—Marvin Kline, 85, former owner and president of Western States Manufacturing, died July 14.
Mr. Kline was born in Sioux City on Dec. 12, 1918. He served in World War II with the 8th Army Air Corps as an operations manager in England and Africa. After his discharge, he and his brother Earl bought Western States Manufacturing, a tire repair materials manufacturing company, and added an automotive parts distribution business.
In 1952, Mr. Kline moved to Los Angeles to write situation comedies for television and publish some of his music, but then decided to move back to Sioux City. He retired from Western States in 2001 after 50 years in the tire business. He also was active as a local philanthropist and advocate for the performing arts.
Mr. Kline is survived by his wife Frances; son Jaimie; daughter Julie Luce; and a grandson.
