SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Aug. 24, 2004) — The California Energy Commission (CEC) plans to issue a contract for a study of rolling resistance in tires by Nov. 17, according to Arnie Ward, energy commission specialist II with the CEC.
The study will consider various issues surrounding the feasibility of a rolling resistance-energy efficiency standard for replacement tires, as mandated in a bill the California legislature passed last year, Mr. Ward said. The California law states that a tire energy efficiency bill must be cost-effective and cannot adversely affect tire life, safety or recyclability.
