AKRON (Aug. 19, 2004) — Goodyear has developed a wet weather technology, Hydro-Paddles, for its Dunlop brand.
The technology, which will be featured on Dunlop's SP Sport 01 ultra-high performance tires, are designed to shoot water laterally from under the tire as the curvature of the Hydro-Paddles propel water from beneath the tire through outer drainage grooves. Wave-shaped surface details in the grooves of the tread are aimed at improving wet traction, Goodyear said.
The tire still provides a quiet ride on wet or dry roads, Goodyear said, and other performance features are not affected.
The Akron-based tire maker said the wet technology will be engineered into “future tires” for the North American tire market.
