ROME, Ga. (Aug. 19, 2004) — Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has been chosen as the sole tire supplier for a new sport motorcycle.
Buell, a Harley-Davidson subsidiary that specializes in sport cycles, picked Rome-based Pirelli's Scorpion Sync radial for its new Lightning CityX, called an “urban street fighter” by its creator, Erik Buell, the company's founder and chief designer.
Pirelli said the tire's patented zero degree steel belted radial construction provides uniform pressure distribution and efficient contact patch for performance and high speed stability. Special high silica compounding optimizes cornering grip and traction in all weather conditions, the tire maker added, providing optimal performance stability.
In a prepared statement, Mr. Buell described the Scorpion Sync as “a really cool tire that has a real coarse tread pattern: a little bit of a mixture between a dirt bike tire and a street bike tire.”
