MEMPHIS, Tenn. (June 21, 2004) — Howard Stein, president of Jacksonville, N.C.-based Target Tire, has been appointed chairman of the board of American Car Care Centers (ACCC) Inc.
Mr. Stein, whose appointment became effective May 1, replaces Bill Williams, president of Jack Williams Tire Co. Inc. who headed the group during the past year. Mr. Stein said his objectives include membership at all levels, adding value programs through the building of vendor relationships and differentiating ACCC from competing programs.
“We've been part of the ACCC program since 1998,” Mr. Stein said. “I have told our dealers and employees that ACCC is the most important thing that we at Target Tire have to offer our dealers. As I have said many times to the other 18 partners in ACCC, our company was a darn good one before our participation in the group, but we are a measurably better company because of our being a part of ACCC.”
ACCC President Len Lewin called Target Tire's dealer network “one of the strongest in the country,” adding that the marketing group looks forward to having Mr. Stein “lead the group to the next plateau.”
Target Tire, which carries Michelin, Continental, General, Bridgestone, Firestone, Cooper and Hankook among its tire lines, has a dealer network numbering 120. The company operates 11 distribution centers in the Southeast servicing Virginia, North and South Carolina, eastern Tennessee, Georgia and northern Florida. ACCC, based in Memphis, has 19 member distributors and 1,104 independent dealer locations in 45 states.
