BETHESDA, Md. (June 7, 2004) — The U.S. motor vehicle aftermarket enjoyed sales of $244.6 billion in 2003, up 3 percent from the previous year, according to the 2004/2005 Aftermarket Factbook published by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).
The AAIA predicted market growth of 3.5 percent for 2004 and 2005. A recovering economy fueled an increase in aftermarket mergers and acquisitions, the Bethesda-based association said, with 48 reported in 2003—an increase of 9 percent over 2002.
