Pirelli names advertising VP
ROME, Ga.-Pirelli Tire North America Inc. has named Peter Tyson vice president, advertising, public relations and motorsports.
Mr. Tyson moved to the U.S. from Milan, Italy, for the new position. He most recently had been director of global brand support for Pirelli Pneumatici S.p.A. Prior to that, he was director of marketing for Pirelli in the United Kingdom.
During his tenure in Milan, Mr. Tyson was responsible for worldwide brand support.
O.K. Tire outlets to sell Sigma
LANGLEY, British Columbia-O.K. Tire Stores Inc. will distribute TBC Corp.'s Sigma private label tire in Canada.
The Sigma line will be available to O.K. Tire's 240-plus independent tire dealer locations on an ``exclusive'' basis, the franchise company said.
O.K. Tire also recently celebrated the grand opening of its expanded distribution center in Baie d'Urfe, Quebec. The warehouse opened in April 2000 and since has more than doubled in size to 66,000 square feet.
The expansion is part of a plan to expand or relocate into larger warehouse facilities in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.
This summer, O.K. Tire will relocate its distribution center in Mississauga, Ontario, to a larger facility. The company also plans to expand its Langley warehouse in 2005.
TIA membership rolls reach peak
BOWIE, Md.-The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has boosted its membership to 5,113, following a decision by the Independent Tire Dealers Group L.L.C. (ITDG) to join the organization.
The ITDG comprises 90 independent tire and wheel dealers with 260 locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Hawaii.
TIA's membership, which is counted by location and not separate companies, has grown by 1,700 members since March 2003.
Kramer new Goodyear CFO
AKRON-Richard Kramer, former senior vice president, strategic planning and restructuring, has replaced Robert Tieken as Goodyear's executive vice president and chief financial officer.
Mr. Tieken, who was CFO for the past 10 years, retired May 31.
Mr. Kramer, 40, joined Goodyear in March 2000 after 13 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P.
Peggy Fisher new TIA secretary
WASHINGTON-Peggy Fisher, president of Fleet Tire Consulting and a columnist for Tire Business, has been elected secretary of the Tire Industry Association.
Thirty TIA board members chose Ms. Fisher over Gary Albright, Becker Tire & Treading Inc.; Mike Berra Jr., Community Tire Retreading; Bud Mullaney, Mullaney Tire Service Inc.; and Stu Zurcher, Transwheel Corp.
The election puts Ms. Fisher in line to become TIA president in four years. In early June, TIA will send out board election ballots to its 5,000 members; election results will be announced during November's Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.
3 Big O stores join Tirecraft
SHERWOOD PARK, Alberta-Three former Big O Tires Inc. stores in British Columbia have joined Tirecraft Auto Centers as associate locations.
The former Big O stores, in Cranbrook, Trail and Creston, will retain their individual ownership, a Tirecraft spokeswoman said.
The additions, along with two recently opened stores in Duncan and Nanaimo, British Columbia, give Tirecraft about 40 stores in the province. In all, the firm has more than 170 stores in Canada, including company-owned and associate outlets.
TB humanitarian deadline nears
AKRON-The deadline to nominate a deserving tire dealer or retreader for the 2004 Tire Dealer Humanitarian Award is drawing near.
July 31 is the deadline for submitting nominations for the Tire Business-sponsored award, which annually recognizes an independent tire dealer or retreader who has made a difference in his or her community through charitable and/or civic work.
This year's recipient will receive a $1,000 donation to the charity of his or her choice and will be honored at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show, Nov. 2-5, in Las Vegas. To submit a nomination, call Tire Business at (330) 865-6121.
