OPELIKA, Ala. (May 27, 2004) — Michelin North America Inc. is marking the 40th anniversary of its Opelika plant with an event for employees May 31.
The Opelika factory was opened by B.F. Goodrich Co. in December 1963 and has produced more than 200 million passenger, light truck and sport-utility vehicle tires since, according to Michelin. About 1,300 employees work there, including 11 who have worked in the plant since it opened.
“We are proud to be part of Opelika's manufacturing past, and we are looking to the future,” said Jill Bonneau, plant manager.
In April the facility marked 1 million safe working hours — more than four months, 24 hours a day without a lost time injury, Michelin said.
