NEW YORK (May 24, 2004) — The History Channel's popular “Modern Marvels” series has scheduled an episode on natural and synthetic rubber, to air June 9 at 10 p.m.
According to History Channel publicity, the program will cover the earliest history of rubber—from the vulcanization process of the ancient Olmecs of Yucatan, a thousand years before Charles Goodyear's discovery, to the high-tech synthetic elastomers of today.
Although the program was not yet available for preview, companies interviewed for the episode included Gold Key Processing Ltd., a Middlefield, Ohio custom mixer, and Carlsbad, Calif.-based Yulex Corp., which is working to commercialize guayule latex under license from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
