GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 24, 2004) — A Michelin North America Inc. division won an Excellence in Transportation Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for its X One wide single truck tire.
The tire maker's Michelin Americas Research and Development Corp. (MARC) unit won the award, in the mobile energy emissions category. The award is in recognition of the energy savings and emissions reductions capabilities of the tire, which, according to the claims of Greenville-based Michelin, can save 4-10 percent in fuel costs and decrease overall weight by 800-1,300 pounds.
“From an environmental standpoint, X One truck tires save countless gallons of fuel each year,” said Terry Gettys, chief operating officer and president of MARC.
