S&S Tire marks 30th anniversary
LEXINGTON, Ky.-S&S Tire celebrated its 30th anniversary this month with an open house event at the Rupp Arena in Lexington.
The event was held exclusively for S&S wholesale customers, employees and guests and included a reception as well as a trade show, the Lexington-based company said.
Various celebrities were on hand to sign autographs and meet people, including racing legend Mario Andretti, three-time NASCAR Winston Cup winner Jeremy Mayfield and University of Kentucky basketball coach Tubby Smith.
Tire makers also were involved in the event-Bridgestone/Firestone sponsored Mr. Andretti, Goodyear sponsored Mr. Mayfield and Yokohama Tire Corp. sponsored Mr. Smith. Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. donated an autographed football from Ohio State University alumni and ESPN personality Kurt Herbstreit, Yokohama offered an $8,000 all-inclusive trip to Russell Racing school, BFS offered Mario Andretti Racing school experiences and Goodyear offered Richard Petty driving school experiences and other prizes.
S&S Tire was founded in 1974 by partners Paul Swentzel and Don Schneider. In its 30 years, S&S has grown from one retail store to seven distribution centers in six states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama and South Carolina. S&S also operates more than 20 retail stores in Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, Ohio and South Carolina. S&S Tire is part of the Best One Tire and Service group.
Harris Tire hosts grand opening
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Harris Tire Co. held the official grand opening of its Huntsville warehouse last month.
The distribution center had opened for business in November 2003. Troy, Ala.-based Harris Tire had served northern Alabama about once a week, but with the new facility the distributor said it expects to service territory north of Birmingham, Ala., and into south-central Tennessee on a more effective basis.
At the open house and grand opening, local tire dealers met suppliers and several Harris Tire employees. Each store owner attending received a free DVD player, courtesy of Dean Tire. Suppliers also gave away a set of tires and various other prizes.
Harris Tire also raffled off a 2004 Toyota Tacoma, won by Brian Lombardino of Brian's Tire.
