DES MOINES, Iowa (April 26, 2004) — Bridgestone/Firestone's Firestone Agricultural Tire Co. (FSAG) subsidiary has pledged $75,000 over five years to aid economic and community development in the greater Des Moines area.
The funds have been committed to the Greater Des Moines Partnership through the auspices of the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund. The tire maker said the first payment of $15,000 was given to the organization recently.
“The Greater Des Moines Partnership provided Firestone Agricultural Tire with significant guidance and support when we built our global distribution center,” said Clair McCloy, director of operations and Trust Fund coordinator in Des Moines. “The new facility is a key project for our company and they were with us the whole way. We hope this pledge will encourage others to recognize the benefit of investing in Des Moines.”
BFS said its ag unit expects to achieve operational efficiencies by consolidating six external warehouses into the new 858,000-sq.-ft. global distribution center. In addition to servicing the U.S. and Canadian replacement markets, the new facility will export products to more than 60 countries worldwide, including Australia and throughout Europe and Latin America, the company said.
More than 116 businesses in the Des Moines area contributed to the Greater Des Moines Partnership's “Building on Success” campaign, with those revenues going toward future economic development across the metro area. The Greater Des Moines Partnership has set five-year goals of targeting 150 new company locations or expansion and expanding overall capital investment in Greater Des Moines by $1 billion.
FSAG manufactures and markets tires for agricultural, forestry and industrial uses throughout North and South America and exports products to 70 countries around the globe.
