TOLEDO, Ohio (April 19, 2004) — Samir G. Gibara, former chairman of Goodyear, and David E. Berges, chairman, CEO and president of Hexcel Corp., have been elected to Dana Corp.'s board.
Glen H. Hiner, chairman for Toledo-based Dana, called both men “proven business leaders with a wealth of experience in manufacturing, technology, and the vehicular industry.”
Mr. Gibara joined Goodyear in 1964 as a management trainee in France. During his career there he led operations in Morocco, Canada, France and Europe, then left Goodyear briefly to serve as vice president of marketing for International Harvester in Europe.
Rejoining the tire maker, in 1992 he was promoted to vice president of strategic planning and business development and, two years later, became executive vice president with responsibility for the Akron-based company's North American Tire operations. Elected to Goodyear's board in 1995, Mr. Gibara became the company's CEO in 1996 and served as Goodyear´s chairman from that year until 2003.
In addition to his Dana Corp. appointment, Mr. Gibara serves on the boards of Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. and International Paper.
During a career begun at General Electric Co., Mr. Berges has worked at a number of firms including AlliedSignal; at the Automotive Systems Group of Honeywell International Inc., where he was president; and at Hexcel where, in 2001, he was named chairman and CEO before becoming president the following year.
