CHICAGO (April 14, 2004) — John Lampe, retired chairman and CEO of Bridgestone Americas Holding (BAH), thanked dealers for their continued support during the company's first major dealer meeting since his March 31 retirement.
“Whether in good times or bad, I hope what I'll be remembered for,” he said, “is that I made a difference by recognizing and inspiring leadership in others to keep making a difference.” Mr. Lampe's videotaped message was played for commercial dealers attending the Nashville, Tenn.-based tire maker's Bizcon 8 meeting in Chicago.
Mr. Lampe, whose successor is Mark Emkes, will remain on the BAH board of directors.
“Please excuse my reluctance to say goodbye,” he told dealers, who largely credit Mr. Lampe's guidance for the company's resurgence after the Firestone tire recalls of 2000 and 2001. “I've never liked saying goodbye. Instead, I hope you'll just permit me to say thank-you for all you've done for Bridgestone/Firestone, for me and for my family.”
