LAVAL, Quebec (April 2, 2004) — As it plans to absorb 17 auto centers from Sears Canada Inc. into its network, President Tire Canada also is working on a deal to sign on another 30 franchise locations in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Denis Monette, general manager of Laval-based President Tire, told Tire Business that about 30 outlets under a single banner are looking potentially to join President Tire's ranks though identification, but the company is not buying the outlets.
In a separate deal announced March 30, the 17 Sears stores, which will be operated through a licensing arrangement with Sears, will be company-owned outlets, joining six other such stores for a total of 23 company-owned outlets. In total, President Tire has a network of 209 stores, including the Sears outlets. The 17 Sears stores in Quebec and the Maritimes should be converted to President Tire by Sept. 1, Mr. Monette said.
Mr. Monette could not name the other stores pending the deal's outcome, which he expects soon.
