SUWANEE, Ga. (March 5, 2004) — Maxxis International, recently named one of Shanghai General Motors' “Best Suppliers,” also has signed on to sponsor a professional golfer.
The award recognizes Maxxis in product development, technology, manufacturing, continuous improvement, value and quality, the Suwanee-based company said. The award was presented to Maxxis' Shanghai, China, plant, which supplies tires to the auto maker. Maxxis also was recognized for winning four consecutive supplier awards.
Maxxis also has announced its sponsorship of Candie Kung, who will represent the tire maker in the 2004 LPGA season. Ms. Kung won back-to-back First Team All-American honors and a 2000 Pac-10 Championship. She went on to claim three LPGA Tour titles plus a sixth-place finish on the LPGA Money List.
In another branding move, Maxxis has become the official tire of the Houston Rockets for the rest of the 2003/2004 NBA season. Rockets players include NBA All-Stars Yao Ming and Steve Francis.
“The Rockets, having players with such international notoriety, is a great fit with our global branding efforts,” said Michael McGunagle, marketing manager for Maxxis.
Maxxis is the North American unit of Cheng Shin Rubber USA Inc.
