Light highway truck tire prices in the original equipment and replacement markets, soared 4.9 percent in July 2003 from 2002 levels, according to the Labor Department's Producer Price Index.
Light highway tire prices also rose 1.5 percent compared with June and three months prior. Radial truck tire proces also climbed 3.7 percent from 2002 but rose 0.8 percent from June and 0.9 percent from April. Truck/bus tire prices were up 3.6 percent from the previous year and 0.7 percent from June.
Elsewhere, passenger car tires jumped 2.6 percent from 2002 and 1 percent over the three-month period. Tires and tube prices saw a 2.9-percent rise from the previous year.
Industrial and highway solid tire prices jumped 3 percent from 2002 yet dipped 0.2 percent since April.
