DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2004) — The deadline to register for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA)'s new custom tire and wheel certification is March 22.
The Custom Wheel & Tire Specialist Exam—dubbed “Z5”—will be administered May 6 at nationwide test locations. SEMA said it will measure real-world knowledge and skills for wheel and tire professionals who install custom applications on passenger cars and light trucks.
The Z5 test builds off other tests for installing automotive accessories, including electric sunroofs, leather interiors, exterior components and roof treatments.
To earn the custom wheel and tire designation, SEMA said an installer must have at least two years of hands-on experience in the specialty segment as well as pass the written exam. The SEMA credential will be valid for five years.
