DETROIT (Jan. 5, 2004) — Michelin North America Inc.'s BFGoodrich brand helped develop concept tires for the Hummer H3T that is on display at the 2004 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.
BFGoodrich's ACG T/A tire, size 275/70R19, fit the concept mid-size truck from General Motors Corp. The tire brand developed the tire in coordination with Nike Inc.'s athletic shoe design. GM and Nike sent original design concepts to BFGoodrich for the tire mold design. The molded tires left significant tread areas available for separate materials to be added, including red and orange rubber materials down the center of the tire and gray rubber pieces molded in the Nike texture pattern in the main tread blocks.
The tire design features many elements from Nike's ACG athletic shoes, or All Conditions Gear.
“This is a first for BFGoodrich Tires and Nike,” said Bob Massa, concept project leader for the tire brand. “Never before have a tire company and an athletic footwear company teamed up to produce an actual tire.”
