Donald J. Perry
LA QUINTA, Calif.-Donald J. Perry, a former president of the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association and the California Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (CTDRA), died Nov. 6. He was 70.
Mr. Perry began working for East Bay Tire Co. in Northern California when he was 18. He later owned and operated Central Tire Distributors, which also was known as Don Perry Tire, in Pleasanton, Calif., for 30 years.
From 1982-84 Mr. Perry served as president of the CTDRA-North and served as NTDRA president in 1988.
A Naval aviator during the Korean War, Mr. Perry remained an active pilot and member of the Quiet Birdman. He served as past captain of the Alameda County Sheriffs aero squadron, past commanding officer of the Western States Association of Sheriffs and as commanding officer of the Palm Springs Police Department Aero Squadron. He also was a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife Nadine; three daughters and a son; and six grandchildren.
David L. Burr
AKRON-David L. Burr, 59, a longtime commercial salesman with Massillon, Ohio-based Ziegler Tire & Supply Co., died Aug. 29.
A 33-year veteran of the tire industry, Mr. Burr began his career with Firestone Tire & Service Centers. He joined Jost Tire of Akron to work in commercial sales and eventually bought a 25-percent share in the business in 1983.
When Ziegler Tire purchased majority ownership of the store in 1989, Mr. Burr continued with Ziegler and was responsible for developing new commercial business for the dealership.
He is survived by his brother, sister and fiancee.
