The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) plans to hold an International Auto Salon event on the East Coast in 2004 to complement the regular West Coast event it annually sponsors.
The new event will be May 21-23 in Atlantic City, N.J. The West Coast version is slated for April 2-4 in Los Angeles.
The sport compact performance market has grown in double digits for the past five years, averaging 52.2 percent, SEMA said. In 2002, retail sales reached $2.4 billion.
For both auto salons, the opening day will be reserved for trade-only exhibit hours for the industry. The following days will have exhibit hours for both trade representatives and consumers.
SEMA also is offering a dual-show package that includes freight and material handling rates to exhibitors participating in both events. Packages also are available for first-time exhibitors.
